7 Reasons Why Smoking is Even More Dangerous for Diabetics
Smoking is bad for everyone who does it and it can even be a health hazard for people who have to take in the second-hand smoke.
Here are 7 reasons why it is even more dangerous to the health of a diabetic:
1) You are more likely to develop nerve damage, known as (neuropathy). Smoking affects your blood circulation and that in turn means your nerve endings are not getting the amount of blood flow they need and would get if you did not smoke. If this happens to the nerves in your feet it could lead to sores that seem to take forever to heal and this can lead to infections and the death of your toes.
In the worst-case scenarios, the infection and dead flesh will spread and the doctor will soon have to amputate.
2) The risk is 100% increased that a smoker will experience limited joint mobility. It's very painful trying to bend, climb stairs or lift something when you have limited mobility in your joints.
3) Smoking you could bring along the develop kidney disease.
4) When you smoke your blood pressure increases. High blood pressure is known as the silent killer. Increased blood pressure creates a real risk of heart disease and stroke.

6) Smoking increases your blood-sugar levels. This makes it more difficult to control your diabetes because your glucose levels could be continually fluctuating every time you smoke a cigarette.
7) And it also increases your cholesterol levels, which increases the risk of a heart attack, which increases your chance of dying.
In fact smoking - and passive smoking - have a seriously detrimental effect on the ABC's of diabetes management:
A1C - the measurement of your blood glucose over a 3-month period
Blood pressure - which should be below 130/80
Cholesterol levels - Cholesterol levels include LDL, HDL and triglycerides. Your LDL should be below 100. HDL levels should be above 40 (for men) and above 50 (for women). Triglycerides should be below 150.
On top of all that - there's the proven risk of lung cancer and other cancers!
